Consignment Shopping
While many moms would like to try their hand at consignment shopping, some just don’t know where to start. In today’s blog entry, I am sharing my favorite online consignment stores and why. I actually mentioned a couple of them in a previous blog entry entitled “3 Money Saving Tips for Moms on a Tight Budget.” If you are considering consignment shopping, hopefully this list will help you get a jump start.
- Swap.com – This is my favorite consignment store. When it first opened, it was only a children’s store. Now, they also sell new and used items for adults. The prices are very reasonable and the website is so easy to navigate. You can actually select the size, type, designer, season, price range and condition of the clothing you want to purchase. My son is very hard on clothes. To ensure longer wear, I like purchasing high quality clothing for him. I am a huge fan of Ralph Lauren but I cannot afford to purchase his clothing at department store prices. Shopping at swap.com has afforded me the opportunity to purchase Ralph Lauren, in excellent condition, while spending less than I would spend for clothing at Wal-mart. I can’t tell you how many compliments I have received about my son’s clothing. The truth is, most of his clothing is purchased from swap.com. I am even able to bless another mommy friend by giving her Matt’s clothes when he outgrows them. I love that! I’ve also found some really nice pieces for myself on this website. Whenever, I need a new dress and I don’t have a lot of money to spend, I just go to swap.com. I’m always able to find something nice. Not to mention the jackets and coats I’ve managed to snag. If it sounds like I really love this site, I do!!! 🙂 If you’d like to see a few items I’ve purchased from them, check out my new swap.com haul video.
- Tradesy.com – Although, I consider myself a thrifty momma and a pretty frugal spender, I am very fond of nice quality handbags. I shop at tradesy.com to purchase designer handbags. I only purchase them occasionally :). My favorite handbag designers are Donney&Bourke and Coach. I am able to find new or gently used handbags on tradesy.com for around $100.00. Of course, the used items are less expensive. Earlier this year, I purchased my oldest daughter, Allison a very nice small Marc Jacobs handbag for around $25.00, including shipping. She loves it. I didn’t tell her it is a designer bag because I didn’t want her getting stuck on designers. I just wanted her to have a quality handbag. At this point in my life, I do not purchase luxury bags, made by designers such as Louis Vuitton. Not, that I have anything against them. Simply put, I’m not in that tax bracket. However, if you like luxury handbags, they sell them too! Many of the sellers, offer great pricing. You just have to make sure they don’t charge too much for shipping.
- The Salvation Army – I realize the salvation army is more thrifty than consignment   but I had to list it. I like shopping there mainly for inexpensive nice quality wooden furniture pieces that need a little rehabbing. If you like, DIY furniture projects, then you will absolutely love the Salvation Army. I am currently, working on a nightstand for my sons room, that I purchased for $40.00. Be sure to follow me on Pintrest. I’ll post pictures when I’m done.
Well, that’s all for now. Until next Wednesday, “In all your ways acknowledge God and He will direct your path.” Proverbs 3:6
Do you or have your ever consignment shopped?

Nicole's Life Perspective
So I was just thinking about consignment shopping yesterday. Being a new stay at home mom I realize how much it can help save money since we only have one income. Thanks for the tips!!!

Definitely. One thing I’m learning, as a stay at home mom, is the importance of shopping smart. We don’t have to comprise quality. We just have to shop in different places. You’re welcome.
